Chickahominy River (CHKOH)

In 2002, 75.43 ha of SAV were mapped for segment CHKOH, 30% less than in 2001 (108.40 ha). This segment accounted for a small amount (0.79%)of the SAV in the Lower Bay Zone. The 2010 restoration goal (140.70 ha) was not met for CHKOH.

SAV beds that were mapped in 2001 were not visible on the aerial photography for 2002 off Turner and Wilcox necks (Map 210); north of Watts Point (Map 127); off Chickahominy Haven (Map 127); on the west side of Old Neck (Map 127); and in Morris and Tomahund creeks (Map 127). In addition, SAV decreased on the western shore southwest of Gordon Island (Map 127); off Yarmouth Island (Map 128); in Buzzard and Nayes bays (Map 128); and in Gordon Creek (Map 128).

There were some areas of increase for CHKOH. New SAV beds were mapped off the east side of Wilcox Neck and in Mills Creek (Map 210); in the upper portion of Morris Creek and on the western shore north of Morris Creek (Map 127); and off Eagle Bottom and in Tomahund Creek (Map 127). SAV also expanded south of Watts Point (Map 127) and off Eagle Bottom (Map 127).
