Description: Shoreline is digitized using the most current imagery collected as part of the Virginia Base Mapping Program (VBMP). Other imagery (Bing maps, Google Earth) is used to help in areas where VBMP imagery cannot resolve the boundary with a high degree of certainty. This digital shoreline is then used as the baseline for mapping shoreline conditions as part of the Shoreline Inventories. The mapped shoreline represents the boundary between the water and the upland; or where marshes exist, the upland edge of the tidal marsh. This shape file contains coding that differentiates between the upland/water interface and the upland/marsh interface.
