Susquehanna Flats this image shows the north end of the Flats just below Furnace Bay. There are very dense beds in Furnace Bay and you can see the interesting pattern of SAV beds sandwiched among the sand bars and the much denser area at the east end of the upper Flats. That denser portion of the bed is roughly one by two miles and is the area Mike Naylor and others have commented on being dominated by wild celery. When we first start the annual survey, this area had very patchy milfoil (density class 1). In just the last few years this bed has rapidly expanded as we have noted in our aerial updates and in the maps we have on the web. And this spread has been natural with no transplanting needed!!!
