Big Annemessex River (BIGMH)

In 2000, SAV area in segment BIGMH increased to 238.34 ha, 30% more than in 1999 (183.15 ha). This segment accounted for a small portion (1.8%) of SAV in the Middle Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (364.52 ha) was not met for BIGMH, and has not been met for this segment since the inception of the aerial survey in 1978. SAV area has been increasing in segment BIGMH for two years, and in 2000 reached the highest level of SAV ever recorded for this segment.

 On the northern shore of Big Annemessex River (BIGMH), one new bed was mapped in Moon Bay (Map 093). SAV continued to expand in Mine, Shirtpond, Flatland, and Ford coves (Map 093), and extended to the area of Scott Point (Map 093). In addition, SAV also continued to expand in Muddy Creek (Map 093). On the southern shore, SAV continued to expand in Acre, Daugherty, and Jones creeks (Map 093). SAV expansion was also noted  southwest of Long Point (Map 093).

 A few areas of SAV decline were noted for BIGMH. On the northern shore in Crane Cove (Map 093), one SAV bed that was present in 1999 was not observed on the 2000 aerial photography. In addition, portions of the bed off Mud Point (Map 093) declined. On the southern shore of BIGMH, SAV declined in the deeper portions of beds on the northeast portion of Janes Island (Map 093), and in Jones Creek (Map 093).
